Not if you and the donor sign sales tax exemption form MVU-26 which you can obtain from our office, the RMV or at www.dor.state.ma.us/forms/mvu/mvu.htm. Same last name or same address donor doesn't need to sign.
If I receive a vehicle as a gift from a non-family member, do I need to pay sales tax?
If you and the donor sign sales tax exemption form MVU-24, which you can
obtain from our office, the RMV or at www.dor.state.ma.us/forms/mvu/mvu.htm, you do not pay sales tax but do pay a $25 fee.

How do I register my trailer?
You will need to come into the office so we can complete the registry paperwork. If
the trailer is new, you need to bring the certificate of origin and a bill of sale. If the trailer is used and has ever been titled in Massachusetts, you need to bring that title. If the trailer is used and has never been titled, we need the registration from the previous owner and a bill of sale.
How do I register my boat?
Contact our office so that we can add the boat to your homeowner policy or apply for a separate boat policy to give you liability coverage. We can complete the registration and sales tax forms for you or you can refer to www.mass.gov/dfwele/dle/elereg.htm.
How do I register my ATV, snowmobile or Jet Ski?

Do I need to register my vehicle as commercial?
Your vehicle needs to be registered as commercial if it has any signage on it, if it has
a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 10,000 pounds, or has 5 or more wheels.
